May 4th, 2016

Think you missed the great whale watching of 2016? Think again, because Dana Point is offering a special pre-Mother’s Day Afternoon Sail on Saturday, May 7 from 2-4:30. Raise the sails and even help steer the ship while you take in the gorgeous California coastline. Refreshments will be served, and this incredible deal is just $70 for adults and $50 for children. Sea Star members snag an extra 10 percent off, and ticket prices include same-day admission to the Ocean Institute Education Center.

Register early, because Dana Point cruises often sell out. It’s a bit past peak whale watching season, but it’s still possible a few sightings will occur. Bring your sunscreen, camera, and best nautical attire for an intimate getaway that’s a perfect precursor to mom’s weekend.

Sailing and Whaling

Visiting the Ocean Institute is a unique way to meet some of the Anaheim area’s most interesting of residents. It’s a learning experience for all, with day camps for the kids and adult-friendly exhibitions. The Tallship Sails adventure cruises operate year-round, but only on May 7 will a special Mother’s Day brunch be served.

No matter how you celebrate the mom(s) in your life, make it really stand out this year by whisking her away on a sunset cruise.

Try The Cannery Restaurant, which overlooks Newport Harbor and is reminiscent of old school Hollywood. Formerly a fish cannery, it’s ideal for lunch, especially if you can score a spot on the patio. The freshest of salads, seafood and appetizers are found here, with an interior “water palace” featuring light fixtures shaped like starfish and jellyfish. Check out the Scottish salmon with farro risotto or the Argentine shrimp.

More for Mom

Bistango is always a great choice, located in the Atrium Building and dishing up contemporary bistro food. Live jazz is featured nightly as well as art displays that are always changing. Enjoy a 360 degree bar and New American cuisine that’s innovative with in-house cuts and wild game, like venison. The menu is always changing, but the expansive wine list is perfectly paired with everything.

Treat mom like the queen she is, from a visit to Anaheim’s famous castle to one of the most delectable eateries in town.

Mother’s Day Celebrations

May 7th, 2014

mothers dayWhat better way to celebrate Mom this year for Mother’s Day than to take her out for an exquisite brunch. Mom works so hard to make our lives that much better and she deserves a special thank you for all of her hard work. Try one of these options as a token of your love and appreciation for all she does.

Mom’s slave so hard over the years for her kids that she deserves to be the Queen for a change. We have two ‘Royal’ meals to make her feel like she is royalty. Hilton’s Mix Restaurant and Lounge features an annual British Champagne Brunch for Mother’s Day. Complete with a custom royal thrown at the entrance, it is the perfect photo opt to capture this special day. Enjoy a delicious menu from 10:30am to 3pm.

Disneyland also offers a Royal Brunch each year featuring royalty themselves, Cinderella and her Princess friends. Hosted at Disneyland Hotel in the Grand Ballroom, enjoy an extensive brunch with nothing but the best for mom. Kids even have their own buffet full of ‘kid approved’ dishes.

Disneyland also has several restaurants throughout the park that are featuring special menu items just for mom and her special day. Enjoy Prosciutto-wrapped halibut at Blue Bayou in New Orleans Square or fruit-glazed salmon with a mango-kiwi relish at Plaza Inn. If that doesn’t do it for you, Carnation Cafe is featuring a mouth watering honey-mustard, lemon-roasted chicken.

Regardless of what you eat this Sunday, be sure to tell mom how much you appreciate her and show her a very special day!
